Assigning Roles to Members

Roles are given to people from the Users and Devices screen — not from the Roles & Permissions page. Once you’ve created the roles you need, here’s how to assign them.

  1. Login to the app manager.
  2. From the menu on the left, click Users and Devices.
  3. Find the person (use the search box if needed) and click the green Edit button on their row.
  4. Find the Roles field and click it to open the list.

  1. Pick a role from the list. Roles are grouped into Built-in (Administrator, Content manager) and Custom roles (the ones you’ve created).
  2. Scroll down and click Finish to save.

A member can hold more than one role

The Roles field is a multi-select: add as many roles as you like and each one appears as a pill. The person’s access is the combination of all their roles — so someone with an “Events editor” role and a “News editor” role can manage both. To remove a role, click the × on its pill, then save.

Assigning a role that includes admin capabilities makes that person an admin of your local — they’ll be able to log into the app manager and use whatever their roles allow.

You can only give what you have

To keep access under control, you can only assign roles whose access you hold yourself. You won’t be able to grant a capability you don’t have, and if your own access is limited to certain bargaining units, groups, or locations, you can only assign roles within that same scope. (The Roles field only appears at all for admins who have the Users & Devices capability.)
