UnionConnect can give any uploaded PDF document a public permalink — a single web address you can share with anyone, post on a website, or drop into an email. The link works whether or not the person has the app, and it never expires.
Why not just copy the file’s URL? Document files are stored on a service that rotates their direct web addresses for security — a copied file link stops working after a few weeks. A permalink stays the same forever and always points members to the current copy of the document.
What you can make a permalink for
Permalinks are only available for Document resources (uploaded PDFs). Resources that are Links or Pages don’t have this option, because there’s no file to point to.
Each document permalink looks like https://unionconnect.com/resources/your-document-title. The web address is built from the document’s title, so a clear, descriptive title makes for a cleaner link.
Creating a permalink
- Log in to the app manager.
- Open Info & Resources for your local (or for a bargaining unit, location, or category).
- Find the document in the list. On its row — or on the document’s own page — you’ll see a green Create permalink button.

Click Create permalink. The button is replaced by the finished web address, with Copy and Remove options. The link is live immediately.

Sharing the link
- Click Copy (or click the address field itself) to copy the permalink to your clipboard. You’ll see a brief Copied! confirmation.
- Paste it anywhere: an email, your union’s website, a social post, or a printed flyer’s QR code.
- Anyone who opens the link is sent straight to the current PDF.
The address shown is always the stable permalink, not the underlying file. That’s the link you want to share — it’s the one that keeps working.
Removing a permalink
- Find the document and click Remove next to its permalink.
- Confirm when prompted.
The public link stops working right away, and anyone who visits it sees a “page not found” message. You can create a new permalink for the same document at any time.
Removing the permalink does not delete the document. It only turns off public access. The document stays in your Info & Resources and in the app exactly as before.
Things to know
- Permalinks are off by default. Existing documents are not publicly reachable until you create a permalink for one. Nothing becomes public automatically.
- Each document’s link is unique. If two documents have the same title, UnionConnect automatically adds a number to keep their links distinct.
- The link points to the latest file. If you replace the document’s PDF later, the permalink keeps working and serves the new version — no need to re-share it.
- Only document admins can create or remove permalinks. Members and the public can only open links that have already been created.
